Regains

FANTASY COSTCO

Where all your dreams come true! While your new digs may not afford the most privacy, what you can afford are the great deals in the first ever Thanatos Institute Exclusive mail order catalog! As you spend more time at the Institute, you may notice that, much like a real adventuring party, there is a monetary boon to go with all the murder in the form of some gold pieces. Out of character, these coins represent qualifying threads and can be redeemed on this page for prizes.

What is considered a qualifying thread?

A qualifying thread is any 10 comment (5 comments per person) thread between two player characters (or threads that take place in public logs with NPCs like the Alchemist) that occurs. Threads that take place during an Investigation or a Trial are NOT ELIGIBLE for regains. The reason for this is that Investigations and Trials are considered to be the game's plot moments or "cutscenes," and have their own activity requirements.

You can earn extra coins for activity over the minimum. For every 5 comments from you over the minimum in one qualifying thread, you will receive one extra coin. This means you can turn in a thread more than once, but only if it has accrued an additional 5+ comments from you since the first time you turned it in.

We also ask that you kindly supply us with comment totals when posting.

Do the threads I use have to be from that week?

Eligible threads don't expire. For example, even though items won't begin being distributed until week 2, you can still use week 1 and intro log threads with other players after that. Consider this a reward for backtagging. (Note: Intro posts for NPCs still count as "cutscenes" and can't be used for regains.)

Do I still have to save threads in case I get death rolled?

Every character gets one get out of death free card. Once you use that card, no amount of stockpiled gold can cheat Death from its due. So it's best to use all your coins before you die!

My threadmate already turned in our thread, do I need to turn it in as well to get that sweet, sweet loot?

Yes you do.

Can I use a thread that I already submitted for AC?

Of course! The only threads that are ineligible are Office hours, Investigations, and Trials. Any other thread is allowed, so long as it's of eligible length.

How do threads with more than two people work?

In order to be able to redeem a thread, your character has to have contributed the minimum 5 comments for a standard thread. For instance, in order for all parties to be able to submit it, a 3-person thread has to be 30+ comments with at least 5 from each person, a 4-person has to be 40+, etc. Any participant with at least 5 comments can submit it for coin so long as the thread is at least 20 comments total.

The character I was threading with is now dead. :( Can I still get free stuff?

Backtagged threads that reach 20 comments after the death of one of the characters can still be redeemed by the surviving party for a coin. The deceased gets bupkis, sorry. If you're slated to die and you want to get your loot while you're still alive, make sure your coins are submitted by the Wednesday of your die week.

When do mods distribute items? When can we plan on ICly getting them?

The mods will process threads twice weekly, on Sunday and Wednesday. All blind box and weekly sales orders will be delivered on Monday and Thursday. Special orders may take more time, depending on what has been ordered, and will be fulfilled when payment is complete.

What kind of stuff can I find in the catalog?

Oh, a wide array of things! There's basic items, of course, including delicacies from all across the multiverse. There's even some magic items, spell components, and maybe even some items that are a little bit familiar to you. Of course, while we have a near-infinite supply of the basic things, our stock of rare and valuable items is limited and rotates on a weekly basis! And any merchant worth his mercantile wits can come up with special orders, on request.

ORDER TYPES

Blind Boxes

You can order a “Blind Box” by submitting threads for a randomized chance at mundane items and player regains. Blind Boxes cost 1 coin.

Weekly Deals
Or you can order from the catalog’s rotating stock of Weekly Deals.
There will be a list of items and their prices posted as part of the weekly log. These items are limited and can run out of stock. Players can choose to save up coins for these bigger-ticket items, instead of spending on the blind boxes. These items will be first-come first-serve, but don't worry - there's a good chance you'll inherit it from your dead friends anyway, even if you don't get it from the catalog.

If there are still items in stock from the Weekly Deals, those items will remain in the catalog but will be subject to a 50% markup in price. This markup is capped at 3 coins (e.g. 4 coins becomes 6, but 14 would become 17, not 21.) Deals like this don’t last forever, darling! (If you find the math daunting, feel free to ask a mod!)

Special Orders

Any mercantile's bread and butter are their special orders! Have you got a special item that you're missing from home? A particular dish that you're desperate to show off to your new friends? Maybe even a pet you had to leave behind*? Never fear! Let Garfield bring your long-lost item directly to you! For a small fee, we can special order almost anything and deliver it in near-perfect condition!**

Special orders can be used to obtain nearly any item, including items that you forgot or didn't have room for on your regain list. The sky's the limit, darlings! The cost of special orders will vary on a case-by-case basis, and all special orders must begin with a thread with our dear Proprietor.

Here’s an example of how the Special Order process works:
IC Haggling

1. Player A starts a thread with Garfield in their office hours where their character asks about the item and haggles over the price. This thread can be of any length, as long as the transaction is negotiated in full. This thread counts as 2 coins towards the cost of the special order being negotiated.
2. After the price is negotiated, Player A fills out the OOC form for a special order portion of the regain form on this page, being sure to include the link to the IC negotiation thread.
3. The mods respond with a delivery date, based on the item.

Keep in mind that Garfield may be unable or unwilling to obtain some items. If this is the case, and you don't want to make a new request in that thread, that thread will count as one gold coin for a blind box or weekly deal item no matter the length.

Of course, with all these deals lying about, Garfield does still have to turn some kind of profit. Be aware that there may be other costs than simple coin for certain requests.

OOCly, there will be a total limit of 5 special orders per character per week, and requesting specific blind box items will count toward that limit. We don't want to render the blind box completely obsolete, after all.

*Pet shipping is not eligible for a purchase protection warranty. The owner of the pet assumes all liability in case of injury to persons or damage to property belonging to Garfield.
** Garfield is not liable for lost, damaged, or missing items. Items confiscated by the Alchemist or other Institute personnel are not eligible for a refund.

Other costs?
Don't worry about it, darling! That's the Pact of the ✨Deal✨!

ORDER FORM

When you have a thread long enough to be redeemed, comment below, completing the following form for each "order":

Thread Link(s): [Link with the name of your thread partner(s) and how many comments from you are in the thread]
Blind Boxes: [number of boxes being ordered]
Weekly Sale: [Item and how many are being ordered]
Special Orders: [Link to negotiation thread and final cost of item]
Total Cost of all Purchases: [Total cost of all above items - please make sure you have enough comments to cover this cost.]

You can include several blind box orders in one form since they are one coin each, but please use separate forms for each Weekly Sale and Special Order. This is because these items will frequently cost more than one coin, and there is a limit of 5 special orders per week per character.

Once you have posted your comment, please make additional comments instead of editing your original to add more links.
